Mail rules
On this site a letter is US$3.99: it goes on the wall now and in the mail when this person can receive it. Wall posts alone are free. What follows describes how we would mail it, not a delivery date.
We review letters before printing to reduce the risk of rejection. Only the facility decides whether to accept and deliver incoming correspondence.
How we format letters
The artwork and the beginning of your message share the first white US Letter sheet; remaining text continues on ordinary white sheets. Grayscale printing, up to three sheets total. No separate card, cardstock, stickers, glitter, fragrance, staples, clips or other objects.
What facility staff do with incoming mail
- All incoming general correspondence is opened and inspected before delivery (28 CFR § 540.14). This is standard at every federal facility — not specific to this service.
- Mail that violates facility rules is not delivered. This includes threats, harassment, sexual content involving minors, and material that violates facility conduct rules.
What you can track
Your private link shows actual review, printing, USPS handoff and reported return events. We do not create estimated events and label them delivered. We aim to print approved letters within one business day. USPS First-Class transit generally takes 1–5 business days after mailing, with additional facility screening time. Weekends and postal holidays affect timing; no maximum arrival date is guaranteed.
Content guidelines
Write knowing that facility staff read incoming mail: no threats, no illegal instructions, no harassment, no contact information for third parties who did not agree to be included.
Questions
Can I include a photo? Yes — it prints on the letter sheet itself. Nothing separate goes in the envelope.
Is this an official channel? No. This is an independent printing-and-mailing service, not affiliated with any government, court, facility, or the person named.
Can I get proof the letter was delivered? Not with ordinary postage included here. We report printing and USPS handoff; no return does not prove delivery.
Can I send a satirical cartoon? We found no blanket ban based solely on the named subject. Every image still requires review, and facility acceptance is not guaranteed.
Can the recipient reply to me? Sometimes. Some recipients may be able to reply by mail depending on facility rules, restrictions, and whether they choose to respond. Replies are not guaranteed. If Escríbeles receives a reply connected to your letter, we will notify you. With your permission, we can open and scan the reply for you. If you want the original mailed to you unopened, you will pay actual shipping/postage plus a US$13.99 handling fee.
Where does the donation go? We are in conversation with a well-known hospital about being named as the beneficiary. Until we have permission to announce it, we will post proof of the donation every month.
